Justin Timberlake - SexyBack

Uncategorized

Justin Timberlake - Sexy BackJustin is back. You can listen to his new Timbaland electro-pop produced lovelyness at his Myspace page. It is repetitive, simple, almost tuneless, and is probably the best pop song of the year so far. It will burrow its way into your brain for the rest of the summer. Welcome back, JT, it’s been a long time.

Eamon - (How Could You) Bring Him Home

Pop / Rap

EamonOh look who it is! Mr. Rude Lyrics Eamon is back after doing quite well with “Fuck It”, his first track, and then less well with all his other tracks including “I Like Dem Hoes, Oh Yeah, I Do Like Them Quite Alot” or whatever it was called. His latest, “Bring Him Home” is a tender love song in which Eamon asks his girlfriend to bring home her secret lover for a cup of tea and maybe they can all watch a DVD together. Like Must Love Dogs, or that one where Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are best friends. Oh wait, that’s not right, the song’s actually called “(How Could You) Bring Him Home” and is another song where he shouts at his hoe-of-a-girlfriend for cheating on him. BUT I THOUGHT YOU LIKED DEM HOES! she cries, sobbing, on the B-side. Um, grab it while you can.

Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

Pop / Rap

Gnarls BarkleyYou must have heard it already. Hitting the clubs and charts in London and New York like only an ageing rapper with a luscious voice and and up-and-coming producer combo can, Crazy, from the album St. Elsewhere, came into being as follows: Dangermouse (on the left) came up with a beat. Cee-Lo, on the right, listened to it non-stop for about twenty minutes and came up with the words. Conclusion: music is easy. Go get it.

Lily Allen - LDN

Pop

Lily Allen

Oh shit, here we go. This is Lily Allen, and she is your new best friend. LDN is the first (very limited edition) release from this 20 year-old Londoner and it is the perfect poppy delight that you have been waiting for to play loudly outside on the grass alongside a main road while drinking Diet Coke and staring up at the sky. A little gem of a song, I suggest you go listen to it now so that you can tell your friends before they tell you about it.

R. Kelly feat. Sean Paul & Akon - Slow Wind (Remix)

R&B

R Kelly R. Kelly ain’t ever going away Just forget it. It doesn’t matter what the hell he may or may not do, or who he may or may not marry, he’ll always be around. Even if he’s not there, he’ll be writing half the songs on the chart. And he’s back, this time with Sean ‘Dutty’ Paul and Akon ‘I don’t have a second name because I’m that cool’, for a crazy six-legged r&b race to the end of the song. Of course, the point about these races is that you’re tied together with rope so you end up falling over. No one wins. Especially not the public who have been forced to watch three grown men crying on the still-dewey grass of a suburban lawn. Let’s get to the lyrics:

With all that meat hangin’ girl, I feel like a butcha,
Just wanna chop you up and cut ya.

What’s that about? Have they run out of ways to put words together to make a rap? “Just wanna chop you up and cut ya”? These three are nuttier than a bag of Planters.

Nelly featuring Paul Wall, Ali & Gipp - Grillz

Hip-Hop / R&B

Nelly GrillzI feel I should probably explain what ‘Grillz’ are first. These are like braces, but more shiny and more expensive. Have a look. Anyways, please note that this is not a new thing, it used to be cool, like in 1991. Thereby not cool now. Anyhoot, Nelly has decided that he should write an entire song dedicated to dental beautification. Remember he had a song about his Nikes (“Air Force One’s”) and hence it’s not a surprise to hear that his next track will be named “(Me and my) One-Liter Thermos” feat. Ludacris and Missy “I dont go anywhere without my trusty Eastpak” Elliot. Expect your 13 year-old little sister to be blingin’ with a set of grillz in time for Easter.

Beyonce feat. Slim Thug - Check On It

Hip-Hop

Beyonce KnowlesUh oh, these two aren’t going to be happy. First, “Stand Up For Love” the first track from Destiny’s Child’s final album (#1’s) bombs in the charts. Then Beyonce decides to release this, solo, which is climbing up the ratings like an agile climber with the latest crampons. Not the best of Beyonce tracks, it still beats DC’s latest effort, not to mention their foray into, um, burlesque. Losing hope that you’ll ever top ‘Crazy in Love’, B…

Eminem - When I’m Gone

Hip-Hop

Eminem When I'm GoneUm, he’s back again. Again. In this track, reminicent of ‘Mockingbird’, Slim Shady is telling his daughter, Hallie how to behave when he’s dead. A bit morbid, really. I wonder what she’s going to think of being included in a bunch of her dad’s work without being asked. Maybe she’ll DISOWN HIM and become a rap starlet, airing her family troubles in a song and the whole thing will become beautifully symmetrical.

And when I’m gone, just carry on don’t mourn,
rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I’m lookin’ down on you smiling
And I didn’t feel a thing so baby don’t feel no pain, just smile back

Feist - One Evening

Alternative

Feist One EveningI have to post this song because it has one of the coolest videos ever. In it, Feist and a partner (Buck 65) dance though three minutes of beautiful choreography. The song is about a couple who meet and their relationship begins and ends in One Evening. Feist has a wonderful, distinctive voice. And she is a lovely dancer. Check out the video on waxy.org, but you might fall in love with her white tights. Just a warning.
